The step count on my wearable device is inaccurate
You can resolve this issue by referring to which of the following scenarios applies:
The step count displayed on my wearable device is different from that displayed on my phone
- The step count displayed on the wearable device is different from that displayed in other apps on the phone.
- The step count displayed on the wearable device is different from that displayed in the Huawei Health app, which is not connected to the wearable device.
Both the wearable device and the phone use the acceleration sensor to count steps. The sensor identifies steps based on movement and acceleration in different directions. Since phones tend to be placed in pockets or bags, the sensor mainly detects the change of acceleration of gravity (in a vertical direction). However, since the wearable device is usually worn on the wrist, the sensor mainly detects arm movement, which is more accurate and scientific. These different modes of detection modes may lead to different step counts.
The step count displayed on my wearable device is different from that displayed in the Huawei Health app
The step count on the home screen of the Huawei Health app is the cumulative result from all wearable devices and phones connected to the same HUAWEI ID. You can view the step count source by referring to Viewing step count source. However, your wearable device only records the data generated on it. Therefore, the step count displayed in the Huawei Health app may differ from that displayed on your wearable device.
The number of steps displayed on my wearable device is less than that displayed on other brands of step counting devices
HUAWEI wearable devices have optimized their step counting algorithms to minimize the possibility of miscounting your steps when you move your arm during common daily activities (such as when you are working, eating, or brushing your teeth). If other brands of step counting devices do not perform such optimizations, the number of steps on such devices will be more than that on your HUAWEI wearable device.
(Your wearable device may fail to record your step count if you walk a few steps, and then suddenly stop walking.)
The number of steps displayed on my wearable device is more than the actual number
The wearable device uses the acceleration sensor to count steps. In some scenarios, such as when you are cycling or in a vehicle, the wearable device may swing irregularly due to bumps in the road or interference from your arm, causing the sensor to misidentify steps, and the step count to increase. This is normal and no cause for concern.
The step count is delayed on my wearable device, and increases after I'm done walking
To ensure optimal accuracy, your wearable device will identify your walking posture before counting steps. In addition, when you have started walking, or when you have stopped while walking, your steps won't be missed so long as your wearable device recognizes that you are swinging your arm.
To avoid a sudden increase in the number of steps, the wearable device displays the increased number of steps in batches. Therefore, when you have finished walking, the steps may still increase multiple times. This is normal and no cause for concern.
My wearable device is unable to count steps or displays 0 steps
Perform the following actions to troubleshoot:
- Make sure that your wearable device has been updated to the latest version. For more information, please refer to Updating your device.
- Your wearable device will only display the step count after you have walked for a short while. Walk for around 20 steps and check whether step count is displayed.
- Restart your wearable device and try again.
- If the issue persists, restore your wearable device to its factory settings. Then pair the wearable device with your phone and try again. (Before restoring your device to its factory settings, back up your important data.)
If you are using the HUAWEI Band 4e or the HONOR Band 5 Basketball Edition, there is a small chance that the step count will not work after you switch from Wrist mode to Shoe mode. In this case, remove the device from your shoe buckle and try wearing it again.
If the issue persists, take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
