The step count in the Huawei Health app is 0, less than the actual count, or stops intermittently
The Huawei Health app displays a message indicating that step count is not supported
Check whether your phone supports step counting if the Huawei Health app displays a message indicating that the step counting feature is not supported.
- If your phone supports step counting, the hardware may be faulty (in particular, the gravity sensor). Back up your data and take your device and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
- If your phone does not support step counting, it is normal that this function is unavailable. In this case, you are advised to purchase a phone that supports step counting.
The step count in the Huawei Health app is 0 or less than the actual count
- Walk for one minute and check the step count
For more accurate results, the Huawei Health app does not count your steps in real time. You need to walk for a while before the app can record your steps. The actual time before the data can be recorded varies depending on phone models. You are advised to walk for at least one minute and then check whether the app displays your step count normally.
- Allow the Huawei Health app to run in the background
Allow the Huawei Health app to run in the background. Otherwise, the app will not automatically launch when the phone restarts and it will be unable to record the step count.
If you have installed a third-party phone manager app, use it to add the Huawei Health app to the protected background apps. Alternatively, uninstall the third-party phone manager app.
For some mainstream models, refer to Background protection settings.
- Check whether the step count works normally when the Huawei Health app is running in the background
If the Huawei Health app cannot count steps when running in the background but can do so when in the foreground, check whether your phone's internal storage is sufficient. Clean up your phone's internal storage and try again. You can also go to Me > Settings > Notification management and enable Show step count in notification panel in Huawei Health.
- Update the Huawei Health app to the latest version in AppGallery.
- For Huawei phones running Android 4.X/HarmonyOS 2.0 or later, the Huawei Health app has been added to the trustlist by default. Since 2021, manual configuration has been required if you are using a new Honor phone model.
- The steps to perform this operation vary between different phone brands, models, and system versions. Consult the manufacturer of your phone or read related user guides for more detailed instructions.
The step count in the Huawei Health app is less than the actual count when Outdoor run/walk is enabled
The Huawei Health app uses the pedometer sensor of your phone or wearable device to count your steps based on your postures when moving. The step count accuracy will be affected by the position where your phone is placed and your running posture. If you find that the step count is inaccurate during a single run or walk, it is recommended that you adjust your phone's position. If you put your phone in a belt bag when you are running, it is recommended that you replace the belt bag with a bag that you can wear on your arm or put your phone in your trouser pocket for the workout instead. We will continue to optimize the algorithms to meet the requirements of more exercise scenarios. Thank you for your attention and support.
The Huawei Health app stops counting steps intermittently
Phones or wearable devices collect postures during movement of a large number of users, such as when they are walking or running, and identifies steps and the motion status mainly by using body movements such as arm movements. In some scenarios when walking, arm movements may be relatively small, resulting in the pedometer sensor being not able to accurately identify your motion status or count steps, such as in the following situations:
- When you are pacing back and forth indoors. You are advised to keep walking for a while in an open area and check whether this issue persists.
- When you are walking too quickly, too slowly, or in some scenarios such as where you are pushing a stroller.
- Huawei phone users: Back up your data and take your phone and proof of purchase to an authorized Huawei Customer Service Center for assistance.
- Non-Huawei phone users: Back up your data and contact the corresponding manufacturer for assistance.
Treadmills cannot count steps
After you have connected your phone to a treadmill, hold your phone while running. If you place your phone on a treadmill, the treadmill will not be able to count steps.
